Diet to recover from Typhoid

Typhoid fever, an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhi, is common in some developing countries and affects more than 12 million people, annually.Typhoid spreads when people consume food or water, which is contaminated by the feces of another, infected person. People with a poor immune system are more prone to the disease and are more likely to be severely affected. Intestinal ulcers, diarrhea or constipation, severe stomachache and hemorrhage are the common symptoms of the disease


Gastrointestinal discomforts are common in typhoid; so care should be taken while cooking food and also choosing foods that are easy to digest. In diet main aim is strengthening of immune system but digective system would not be working properly due to the infection.

  1. Eat food with more of carbohydrates
  2. Soft Rice
  3. Soft-cooked vegetables
  4. Raisins Soaked in cold water over night


  • Avoid Fruits & Vegetables which are eaten without peeling
  • Avoid Tea & Coffee
  • Avoid junk food
  • Avoid Spicy food
  • Avoid Ice-cream & Soft-drink
  • If suffering from diarrhea, avoid daily/milk products
  • Avoid food prepared with oil & Besan
  • Avoid Maida Made food


  • Milk n Cornflakes
  • 1 Chapati soaked in 200ml Milk with added sugar
  • Chapati (not more than 2 anyways) with Masoor/Moong daal soup
  • Rice flake Pulav with peas and carrots (not more than 1 small plate)
  • 200grams Custard + 1 Toast


Mid-Day Meal (11:00 AM to 11:45 AM)

  • Coconut Water
  • 1 Apple
  • 1 Banana
  • 100/150 grams of Grapes or Black Grapes
  • 1 Pomegranates
  • 2 Chiku

Lunch Meal (2:00 PM to 3:00 PM)

  • Parboiled Rice with Chicken Stew
  • Parboiled Rice with Fish Stew
  • Matar Dal (with adding lemon too it)
  • Mashed potato with Boiled Rice
  • Boiled Egg
  • 2 Chiku

Evening Time (5:00 PM to 7:00 PM)

  • Pomegranates Juice, add 1 spoon honey and a pinch of Black Pepper.
  • Carrot Juice
  • Apple Juice (add 1 spoon Ginger juice to it).
  • Coconut Water (add some mint leaves to it)
  • Mix Veg Soup (without spice)
  • 1 Spoon honey in warm water

Dinner Time (9:00 PM to 9:30 PM)

  • Mung Daal with chapati
  • Spinach & Paneer Soup


Healthy fluids, such as coconut water, fresh fruit juices, vegetable soups, lime juice, sugarcane juice, and glucose water, regularly after recovering from typhoid
