WHAT IS ANEMIA
It is a condition in which the blood does not have much/enough count of Red blood cells and/or the red blood cell in the blood is not healthy.

The job of Red blood Cell is to take oxygen from Lungs to all the other parts of your body

WHAT CAN CAUSE ANEMIA & TYPES OF ANEMIA

  • Iron deficiency anemia

Iron is significant for structure of the hemoglobin molecule and hence bone marrow needs Iron to make Red blood Cells. Apart form the low intake of Iron in your daily diet, iron Deficiancy Anemia can also happen if you are suffering from colon cancer,uterine cancer, intestinal polyps or hemorrhoids.

  • Anemia from active bleeding

Gastro-intestinal Ulcers, Colon Cancer or loss of blood through heavy menstrual bleeding can cause Anemia.

  • Anemia of chronic disease

Any kind of Medication, if taken for very long duration can cause anemia.

  • Anemia related to kidney disease

Kidney produces a important hormone ‘erythropoietin’ which bone marrow uses to make red blood cells. so, if you have any issue with kidney which is not taken care of/is along-standing then it may give you anemia as well. To increase the production of ‘erythropoietin’ hormone, Epoetin alfa/Procrit/Epogen) is a Injection which is given to the patients with anemia due to problem in Kidney.

  • Anemia related to pregnancy

Water weight and fluid gain during pregnancy dilutes the blood and with the low count of red blood cell you would suffer from anemia.

  • Anemia related to poor nutrition

In your daily diet, you need Iron, vitamin B12 & folic acid for the proper production of the Hemoglobin hence deficiency of these nutritions can also cause anemia. Those who are vegetarians should take special care about intake of Vitamin-B12.

  • Pernicious anemia

This means the Anemia has happened due to deficiency of Vitamin-B12, which can also happen if there is any problem in Stomach or the intestine due to which your body fail to absorb Vitamin-B12

  • Sickle cell anemia

This is an inherited disease in which the red blood cells have an abnormal crescent shape & it therefore block small blood vessels. We can also say, Sickle cell anemia is a disorder of the blood caused by an inherited abnormal hemoglobin. Sickle cell anemia is caused by a mutation (change) in a gene

  • Anemia related to medications

Anemia can be caused with long medication of any medication. Here is the list of some medicines which are more likely to cause anemia, chemotherapy drugs used to treat cancers, some seizure medications, transplant medications, HIV medications, some malaria medications, some antibiotics (penicillin, chloramphenicol), antifungal medications, and antihistamines.
